1 In 5 UCSC Student Grades Unreported Amid Grad Student Strike
Graduate students at the University of California, Santa Cruz have scheduled a rally for noon Thursday as they call for higher pay.
SANTA CRUZ, CA — As graduate student workers at the University of California, Santa Cruz prepared to rally Thursday for higher pay in an area with exorbitant cost of living, the Santa Cruz Sentinel reported that one in five, or 12,000, fall grades were not reported.
Grad students are withholding the grades as leverage against the university as they call for a $1,412 pay increase that students say would put them on par with UC Riverside graduate student workers, the paper reported.
The rally is scheduled for noon Thursday at Kerr Hall, organizers posted on social media. In the announcement, organizers claimed that the university administration refused to meet with student workers to negotiate a wage increase.

The strike, however, is not authorized by UAW 2865, the union that represents UC graduate workers, the Sentinel reported.
"Together, we have power! Students and workers RUN UC!" organizers wrote.
