2 Hospitalized After Suspected DUI Crash On Highway 17, CHP Says

Two Santa Cruz County residents were hospitalized this weekend after a rollover crash.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — An Aptos man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a rollover crash on Highway 17 Saturday night.

Jacob Rush, 25, was arrested at the scene of the crash, according to a news release from the California Highway Patrol. Rush and his passenger, a 24-year-old Santa Cruz woman, were hospitalized with major injuries at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

Rush was not wearing a seatbelt, according to CHP.

The two were driving southbound on Highway 17 around 10 p.m., south of Glenwood Drive, when Rush unsafely turned the wheel, sending the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee onto the west embankment before it rolled over, CHP said. The car continued rolling over until it came to rest in the #2 lane.

Traffic was detoured for nearly three hours. CHP continues to investigate the crash.
