📰 News we're reading
1. Seacliff State Beach recovery effort hosts community input meeting (santacruzsentinel.com) — State Parks officials are asking locals to weigh in on major changes coming to Seacliff and New Brighton state beaches, overseen by the Santa Cruz district. After storms destroyed campgrounds and infrastructure, planners outlined options for new campsites, access routes, and seawalls, drawing pushback over proposals on Seacliff's upper bluffs. Residents can still influence the final plan through an online Seacliff Resilience survey.

2. A Non-Surfer's Weekend in Santa Cruz, California (luxebeatmag.com) — Visitors from Phoenix spend a long weekend exploring Santa Cruz beyond the boardwalk, highlighting spots locals know well: West Cliff Drive, Natural Bridges, Bookshop Santa Cruz, Kuumbwa Jazz Center, and downtown restaurants. Their food, wine, and surf-culture adventures double as a fresh outsider's guide to favorite Santa Cruz and Capitola hangouts, from Wharf seafood to Zachary's breakfasts and Soquel Mountains Pinot Noir.

3. Man arrested for intentionally starting fires in Santa Cruz County (mercurynews.com) — Fire crews from multiple Santa Cruz County agencies quickly contained several small vegetation fires near Green Hills Road in Scotts Valley last week, preventing injuries or structural damage. Scotts Valley police say a man living in a nearby tent admitted to intentionally setting the fires and was arrested on arson charges, after residents tipped off firefighters during the response.

4. The Neighbor's Pub Closes Santa Cruz Location (goodtimes.sc) — Santa Cruz's only LGBTQ+ bar, The Neighbor's Pub on Pacific Avenue, has closed its doors after less than two years, citing high costs and a hostile political climate. The shutdown leaves a major gap for LGBTQ+ Santa Cruzans who relied on its inclusive events, though owner Frankie Lynn Farr plans to keep queer gatherings going while searching for a new location.
