Thousands Wake Without Power In Santa Cruz County
More than 10,000 in Santa Cruz County lost power amid high winds Sunday. Officials warned people should stay away from fallen power lines.
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — About 6,300 buildings were in the dark as of 9 a.m. Monday, after tens of thousands lost power across the San Francisco Bay Area Sunday amid gusty winds, the Pacific Gas & Electric Company reported.
Higher elevations of northern Santa Cruz County were most impacted, including households near Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, Mission Springs and north of Soquel. Swaths of households near La Selva Beach, the Aptos Hills/Lark Valley area, Freedom and northeast of Amesti were also in the dark.
The outages were caused by weather, PG&E said. Nearly 65,000 in the Bay Area lost power Sunday.

The worst of the winds appears to have passed for Santa Cruz County, though seven roads have been at least partially closed due to toppled trees, power lines or phone lines, the county reported Monday morning. See a full list of affected roads here.
