SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — A Santa Cruz man was arrested late Wednesday in connection with the theft of a firefighter's wallet, stolen out of his car as he battled the CZU August Complex Lightning fires.
Brian Johnson, 37, admitted to the theft and apologized to the firefighter, said Santa Cruz County Sheriff Jim Hart at a Thursday news conference.
Johnson was arrested on suspicion of felony charges including grand theft, forgery, credit card theft, possession of stolen property and probation. Hart said he has spoken with District Attorney Jeff Rosell, who is committed to prosecuting the case.
