Laird Top Vote-Getter In Open Senate Seat Race: Election Results
Find out how voters cast their ballots in the race for the California State Senate, District 17 seat.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Voters decided who should represent Santa Cruz County and the surrounding region in the race to occupy the California State Senate District 17. Democrat John Laird held a significant lead with 56.9 percent of the vote. Fellow Democrats Maria Cadenas and John M. Nevill, received 18.6 percent of votes and 3.1 percent of votes, respectively, and Republican Vicki Nohrden received 21.2 percent of the vote.
The District 17 seat is an open seat, with incumbent Sen. Bill Monning nearing his term limit.
The district includes all of Santa Cruz and San Luis Obispo counties, plus parts of Monterey and Santa Clara counties.
