Are you holding onto boxes of sensitive documents? Not sure what to do with the shredded paper you've accumulated? (Shredded paper is not accepted in the curbside recycling bin.) Dispose of your confidential documents at our free Paper Shred Event on Saturday, May 9th from 9 am - 1 pm, at the City Hall Parking Lot (corner of Chestnut and Church St). 
A maximum of 3 standard-size banker boxes (10″x 12″x 15″) per household for City of Santa Cruz residents only. Paper will be shredded in front of you and then responsibly recycled at a Steri-Cycle facility.
The event lasts until 1 p.m. or until the truck is full, whichever comes first. We hope to see you there!

UCSC Arts &amp; Ecology Festival 
On Earth Day, UC Santa Cruz launches the inaugural Arts &amp; Ecology Festival: Creative Resistance, a campus-wide gathering that refuses to treat climate change as a problem of carbon alone. Instead, it brings together artists, scientists, students, and community partners to engage the deeper conditions of the crisis, and to open space for cultural, political, and imaginative transformations grounded in repair, reciprocity, and collective futures. 
 
Taking place at the Digital Arts Research Center (DARC), the festival unfolds as a full day of exhibitions, film screenings, performances, workshops, talks, and public engagement. Developed through an open call that drew an overwhelming response across disciplines, the program reflects a growing field of practitioners working across environmental research, land-based knowledge, climate resistance, and practices of repair that move beyond dominant institutional and economic frameworks.

The frequencies can help you relax deeply, release emotional blockages, and feel a warm connection to yourself and others.

Rebecca is a LMFT who works with trauma management and recovery in her private practice. Over the past twenty years she has delved deep into her yoga practice to become a certified yoga instructor, a Theta-Healing practitioner, and recently added her crystal bowl certification to the repertoire of her practice. Combining her holistic background, Rebecca will infuse each session with love-based energy to create a heart-opening experience where one can feel a sense of calm, peace and divine connection to self and others.

There is a natural intelligence moving through all living things — a subtle life force that restores balance, regulates the nervous system, and supports the body’s innate capacity to heal.
Reiki is one way of learning to work with that living energy. Reiki is often translated as Universal Life Energy — the vitality that flows through and connects all life. Reiki is simple, intuitive, and calming. Many people experience it as a return to coherence — a settling of the body and mind into their natural rhythm.
In this hands-on Reiki 1 training, you will learn how to connect with this gentle healing energy and begin working with it for yourself and others.
During this training you will receive your Level 1 Reiki attunements, opening the energetic channels that allow Reiki to flow through your hands. Once received, this connection remains with you for life.
 This training is appropriate for anyone who feels called to explore healing work, deepen their intuition, or cultivate a supportive practice for their own wellbeing. No previous experience is necessary.
Many people take Reiki 1 simply to support their own healing and nervous system regulation. Others go on to integrate Reiki into their professional work as therapists, bodyworkers, yoga teachers, educators, caregivers, or community healers.
Trista Mallory Glazowski is a Reiki Master in the Usui lineage and the founder of Zabet Glows, a Santa Cruz–based practice devoted to flower essence support, energy and sound healing.
Her path into energy healing began after the death of her grandmother, which sparked a deeper curiosity about healing, presence, and the subtle ways we support one another through life’s transitions.
She received her Reiki 1 training in 2016 and Reiki 2 in 2017 at Maha Rose in Brooklyn, New York. In 2018, shortly after the birth of her first daughter, she completed her Reiki Master training, guided by her sister — a Reiki Master, Interfaith Minister, and Nurse.
Today Trista shares Reiki through both private sessions and trainings, emphasizing grounding, energetic awareness, and helping people reconnect with their intuition and their body’s innate capacity for balance and coherence.

Have you been curious about hot composting? Maybe you have tried before but need a refresher. No matter your experience, join the City of Santa Cruz Waste Reduction Staff for a workshop all about hot composting! In this workshop, we will build a compost pile together, discuss best practices for maintaining a bin, and look at strategies for reducing wasted food and why it matters. Plus, enter our raffle to be eligible to win composting accessories!
Finished compost created from a backyard composting system offers a hefty dose of healthy microorganisms and other benefits for your garden and soil. Caring for a compost pile gives you gold for your garden and can contribute to a sense of well-being.
If you already have a composting system that could use some attention, feel free to sign up and bring your questions and photos! We will have time to discuss and learn from each other as a group. The City offers a compost rebate program to get a bin of your own too. Hope to see you there!

Come to the duck races and enjoy food, games, and music. Listen as the bugle blares signaling the start of each race and children run to watch as thousands of rubber ducks course down the water raceway.
Adopt a duck and have a chance to win over 100 prizes. All proceeds from duck adoptions go directly back to our community through the Omega Nu Scholarship program and grants provided to teachers, nonprofits, and charitable organizations. The ducks race rain or shine!
