"By the Coast" & "Stones of Ages Past": Photography by Virginia Draper & Tom Bullock

First Friday reception, July 1, 6-8 PM.

In “By the Coast,” Draper invites us to look with fresh eyes at local scenes and familiar objects.  Summer in Santa Cruz becomes surrealistic through the lens of her unpredictable Holga camera.   And Natural Bridges State Beach becomes less iconic and more intimate in her ten diptychs. Each diptych pairs a landscape with a photo of something found on the park's ground.  Draper’s exhibit includes “Mr. Plastic Man,” a sculpture she made using many of these found objects.

With “Stones of Ages Past,” Tom Bullock takes us further away to share his passion for rock formations and his interest in their cultural significance. His expansive, awe-inspiring images show us how vital these sentinels, guards, and sanctuaries are and remind us that humans should do everything they can to preserve them.  An Open Studio artist, Bullock travels extensively photographing people, landscapes, and historical sites. To take a virtual tour of the worlds he has visited, see his web site at www.tombullock.com/.
