Artist Statement:
Recylcing had always been an important issue to me, (even before it was in vogue). No matter what medium of artwork I am working in, the recycling of discarded product plays a major factor in the formation of the artpiece. Because the availablity of recycled product can be unreliable as to its quality and quantity, it forces me to be flexible in my designs and provides unpredictability in the final outcome. I often have no clue as to what the final product will look like, let alone what it will be. Thus, the fun is in the journey.
Most of the beads I use in my artwork are acquired at thrift stores, flea markets, yard sales and other obscure sources. Generally, I work with hemp when crafting beads and I am an avid hemp activist. I love the learning of new skills and the applications they provide. Some pieces I work on for years, others happen overnight. What I love about art and life is its ambiguity.
Check out Carrie's work and enjoy the First Friday festivities!
