Etienne Charles’ Trinidadian roots are fully reflected in his post-bop, musical vision. Leading a talented band of compatriots with his buoyant trumpet out front, Charles combines jazz, Calypso and Caribbean influences into a winning mix of infectious grooves. He is also an excellent hand percussionist and storyteller, in the Afro-Caribbean folkloric tradition. Among the newest wave of young artists making their mark today, Charles is updating the jazz tradition and adding to its vibrancy for a new generation of listeners. His latest release, Kaiso, has won critical raves from around the jazz world.
