Pat Martino is a guitarist’s guitarist whose appeal extends beyond the jazz world. Rock icons Pete Townsend, Carlos Santana, and the late Jerry Garcia are among those who have credited him for musical inspiration. Starting out as a teen-age guitar prodigy, Martino made a name for himself in the organ ‘soul-jazz’ groups of the ’60s, performing with keyboard greats Charles Earland, Jack McDuff and Groove Holmes. Side-tracked in the early ’80s with a brain aneurysm, Martino made a remarkable comeback. In his six decades of music-making, evolving through bop, soul-jazz, fusion, and free-form, Pat Martino is playing stronger than ever. Undeniable: Live At Blues Alley is his latest release.
