SANTA CRUZ, CA — Aspiring bakers, from 7 to 18 years old in Santa Cruz County, are invited to enter the 2019 Holiday Baking Challenge, a new event sponsored by Teen Kitchen Project, a non-profit that shows teens how to create nutritious meals that are then delivered to local individuals and families in crisis.

The baking-challenge participants will create holiday treats at home and bring them to Calvary Episcopal Church in Santa Cruz on Dec. 7 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. for judging and tasting, with varying categories by age and submission.

Kids are encouraged to use original recipes, but if a recipe is from a known source, it must be credited, the organization said.

This premiere, county-wide competition will further boost cooking skills of area youngsters, according to organizers.

"We believe that one of the greatest benefits of baking in this competition is the creativity and the potential new culinary skills attained during the process," Teen Kitchen Project said.
