SANTA CRUZ, CA — As a result of two ongoing, large-scale street repair projects in Santa Cruz, traffic in the city is being impacted. The Cedar Street Rehabilitation Project includes partial street closures and detours as part of rehabilitation/reconstruction on Cedar Street from Church Street to Laurel Street. The city's separate Surface Seal Project includes rehabilitation of local city streets that have experienced significant deterioration.

Travelers should expect delays; traffic control will be in effect with detours around the following construction work:

  • Friday, June 7, through Monday, June 10, the Cedar/Lincoln intersection will be paved.
  • On Monday, June 10, there will be saw-cutting work on Laurel Street from Blackburn Street to Walti Street.
  • On Tuesday, June 11, Cedar Street will be paved from Lincoln Street to Church Street. There will also be paving at the Cedar/Maple intersection.
  • On Wednesday, June 12, to Friday, June 14, utility boxes will be raised on Cedar Street from Lincoln Street to Church Street. Also, two driveways in City Parking Lot 5 will be replaced.
  • The Surface Seal Project is scheduled to impact traffic for Monday, June 10, through Friday, June 14, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The June 10-14 surface seal construction locations and timeline are listed at www.cityofsantacruz.com. Intermittent lane closures and limited on-street parking are expected during construction. Sidewalks will occasionally be closed, however, all driveways in the project areas are expected to remain accessible.

The 2019 Surface Seal Project is scheduled to continue weekdays through July 31. The Cedar Street Rehabilitation Project is expected to conclude before summer. Both projects are being funded by Measure H and Measure D tax dollars. The Cedar Street project also includes funding from a Community Development Block Grant.
