Man Lost At Sea Classified As Missing Person

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA – A Utah man who may have drowned after jumping off a cliff in Santa Cruz on Saturday has been classified as a missing person until his body is recovered, according to police.

Firefighters responded to a request for a water rescue for Dang Haus, 24, around 3 p.m. in the vicinity of Seal Rock.

Haus reportedly jumped from a cliff in an area known as the "toilet bowl," and witnesses reported that he began screaming for help due to dangerous water conditions.

Rescue swimmers searched for him, but were quickly called back to shore due to dangerous conditions.

Boats and aircraft from multiple agencies searched the area, but that effort was called off around 9 p.m. due to poor visibility.

The next morning it turned into a recovery effort, according to police.

Foul play does not appear to be a factor, and investigators found no indication that Haus was trying to harm himself.
