SANTA CRUZ, CA — Santa Cruz voters were asked to vote on Measure X to change the way Santa Cruz City Schools District Board of Trustees members are elected. As of Wednesday morning 76.6 percent of voters were in support.

The change was in response to a lawsuit against the district under the California Voting Rights Act, the city attorney wrote in an analysis. The lawsuit argued that the city's current at-large voting system for the board had resulted in inadequate minority representation.

The city settled. Measure X seeks to enact a city Charter amendment to bring the Charter policy in line with changes brought by the lawsuit.
