SANTA CRUZ, CA — The Santa Cruz Police Department is advising motorists that they may experience significant traffic delays in the center city Friday as several community groups concerned about the environment and the effects of global warming stage demonstrations.

In an effort to draw greater attention to the global climate crisis, youth and adults from around the world and across the United States have been staging strikes to demand an end to fossil fuels and reductions in corporate pollution and environmental destruction.

The events kicked off Sept. 20 when millions of people walked out of their schools, workplaces, and homes in solidarity. Other Santa Cruz County demonstrations were planned over the ensuing days, with events culminating Sept. 27 with a wider-spread student-led walkout and demonstration in downtown Santa Cruz.
