SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Santa Cruz County has launched a program to help residents who lost income as a result of the pandemic pay rent and utilities.

Households will be eligible for up to $10,000 to pay bills going back to April 1. Applicants will be selected at random.

The program is funded by funding from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the county said in a news release.

Residents are eligible if they earn less than 80 percent of the area median income — at or below $74,350 for a household of one, for example — and have unpaid or partially paid rent or utility bills in recent months.

Apply here by Sept. 15. The county anticipates adding an additional application deadline.
