Santa Cruz Man Accused Of Impersonating Cop On Facebook, Publishing Kid Porn

The 31-year-old man -- already facing child pornography charges -- used the name of his arresting officer to distribute more, police said.

A Santa Cruz resident already facing child pornography charges was arrested this week after he allegedly created a Facebook page in the name of his arresting officer and used it to distribute more child porn, Santa Cruz County sheriff’s officials said today.

Christopher Schuette, 31, was originally arrested in January 2014 on suspicion of possession of child pornography, but was released from jail after he posted bond.

In early December, sheriff’s office detectives began investigating a Facebook page in the name of the Santa Cruz police officer who had arrested Schuette.

The page was distributing child pornography.

After an investigation with the FBI, the San Jose Police Department’s internet crimes against children unit and the Santa Clara County sheriff’s office, sheriff’s detectives arrested Schuette on Monday at his home in the 500 block of Carbonera Drive in Santa Cruz.

Additional items related to child pornography were found during a search of the home, sheriff’s officials said.

He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on suspicion of distribution of child pornography, false impersonation, stalking and committing a felony while released on bond.

His bail has been set at $250,000, sheriff’s officials said.
