SANTA CRUZ, CA — Dozens of people gathered in front of the Del Mar Theater in Santa Cruz on Sunday to protest the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Santa Cruz Sentinel reports.

One of the rally organizers told The Sentinel that the rally was designed to raise awareness of the invasion, inform people how they can help Ukraine, and advocate for harsher sanctions on Russia. Some petitioners advocated making Ukraine a no-fly zone, which would make occupying Russian aircraft a violation of international law.

The U.S., the EU, and other countries have already imposed punishing sanctions on Russia, including an expulsion from the SWIFT banking system. Several European countries have closed their airspace to Russian planes.
