Santa Cruz Student featured in National Geographic's Magazine

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A Santa Cruz Student is featured in National Geographic's Magazine Sasha Jaffarove 16 a junior at Pacific Collegiate School, was featured in National Geographics Magazine January 2017 Special Edition issue #GenderRevolution

Sasha was photographed mapping a cave at Lake Shasta Caverns in Northern California in July 2016.

Matthew W. Doyle General Manager of Shasta Lake Caverns allowed Sasha and National Geographic's photographer Kitra Cahana to explore and map every inch of the cave under the supervision of cave guide supervisor David Mundt ”Cave Dave”.Sasha has been working on her Cave Mapper for over 5 years and she is currently on her 3rd prototype. Sasha’s Cave Mapper has won many awards at Synopsys Science and Engineering Fair in the past and over 5 awards at the 2016 Santa Cruz County Science and Engineering Fair . Sasha was also runner up to attend Intel’s International Science and Engineering Fair in 2016.

This is not Sasha's first time in the spotlight. In 2013 Sasha was on the news for having worked on a project that was accepted onto The International Space Station:

Sasha has been on numerous panels at the Bay Area Maker Faire, Pixar, Intel to name a few. She teaches an after school program at the Santa Cruz Children's School and she is also working with the Santa Cruz Library on a Marker Space program for Young Makers that is to be held at the Downtown branch on Saturday afternoons starting in February.
