UC Santa Cruz Fire Burns 2 Cars, Building Exterior
The blaze was on Cowell-Stevenson Road.

SANTA CRUZ , CA – A fire that started in a parking lot at the University of California at Santa Cruz Saturday morning spread to a building, and fire crews quickly put it out, fire officials said.
The Santa Cruz Fire Department responded at about 11 a.m. to a report of black smoke in the area of 520 Cowell-Stevenson Road.
Firefighters found two vehicles on fire in a parking lot. The fire had spread to a cafeteria and the sprinkler system had activated, fire officials said.

Firefighters put the fires out within 10 minutes. Additional firefighters helped with evacuation, securing electrical hazards and checking for fire extension to the interior of the cafeteria.
The fire was contained to the building's exterior, fire officials said.

The damage was estimated at $25,000. No injuries were reported, according to fire officials.
