White Nationalist Campaign Strikes UC Santa Cruz Campus

Campus officials believe those defacing the campus are part of a nationwide campaign​.​

SANTA CRUZ, CA — UC Santa Cruz was recently subjected to graffiti and fliers from what campus officials believe is a white nationalist campaign, it was announced Tuesday.

"White nationalist messages left recently on our campus try to break the foundation of the social justice we strive for at UC Santa Cruz. We will not let cracks form," a joint statement from school officials said.

The joint statement was put out by Teresa Maria Linda Scholz, campus diversity officer for staff and students; Garrett Naiman, associate vice chancellor and dean of students; and Nader Oweis, UCSC chief of police.

Campus officials believe those defacing the campus are part of a nationwide campaign.

"We are determined to not let others undermine our work toward creating a healthy campus climate that is inclusive and physically safe for all members of our Banana Slug community. Our students belong here. Our staff members belong here. Our faculty members belong here," the message continued.

Officials are urging the UCSC community to contact the UC Santa Cruz Police Department if hate-evoking graffiti or fliers are found on campus.
