1450 Ocean: Dancing Democracy Wednesdays with Christine Suarez

Join us for a low impact, fun and mindful dance class for adults of all abilities. This class is informed by a Dance for Veterans curriculum that Christine co-created at the West Los Angles VA Medical Center. She also draws upon her 20+ years as a professional contemporary dancer and choreographer to create an experience that all can enjoy. Participants will meditate, stretch, strengthen, and improvise along with some mambos, cha chas and other creative expression. Classes will culminate in a democratically created group dance. Please come dressed in comfortable clothes that you can move in. Workshops build over four sessions but drop-ins are welcome.

Parking is around the corner at Structure 6 on 2nd, $4 for 3.5 hours.

Christine Suarez is a Santa Monica-based choreographer, performer, educator, feminist and community activist. Born in Caracas, Venezuela and raised in Baton Rouge Louisiana, she made her first works of choreography in her parents’ backyard to the Grease soundtrack. Since then she has created thirteen evening-length dance-theater works, numerous site-specific events and over a dozen dances for the theater and film. Parking and Transport: Parking is $1 for first 2.5 hours in Parking Structure 6 (2nd between Broadway and Santa Monica), each 30 min. thereafter $1.50, max $14. At 120 Broadway, flat $5 after 4pm and weekends. At the Civic Auditorium lot at 1855 Main St; $5 all day, every day. Meters on Ocean Avenue; $2/hr maximum 3 hours. Call 310-458-2239 to confirm availability, preferably by the Tuesday before class starts; plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of class; many classes do not allow drop ins.

Refunds/Transfers: Full refunds given if class is cancelled before taking place. For any other reason, $15 processing fee for each multisession activity refunded; one-time classes & expended material fees are nonrefundable.
