This four week workshop covers long and short fiction and creative nonfiction. We work to make our writing clearer, to help each writer evoke the “vivid and continuous dream” that John Gardner writes about in The Art of Fiction. We have only one rule: you can do anything if you can get away with it. And if it doesn’t throw the reader out of your story and get them to start thinking about what’s in the refrigerator, y...ou’ve gotten away with it! That being said, there are a few general principles that can help a writer make their work more compelling. I focus on issues in a piece that may offer a window into techniques that can help the whole group. We also bring as much laughter into the mix as possible - I find that criticism is easier to take when it comes with a heaping tablespoon of hilarity. We’ll build up to an open mic night on November 19; invite your friends!

Four part series + final show, drop-ins accepted at $15 a session. For the first class, bring five copies of a sample of your work: 5-7 double spaced pages.

Short classes make parking a breeze! $1 for 2.5 hours at Structure 6, right around the corner.
