2 Minors Arrested, Accused of Armed Robbery In Santa Monica

SMPD arrested two minors, one of whom accidentally shot himself in the hand, on suspicion of armed robbery of a delivery driver.

SANTA MONICA, CA — The Santa Monica Police Department arrested two minors, one of whom accidentally shot himself in the hand, on suspicion of armed robbery, authorities announced Wednesday.

On Monday, officers said they received a report of a delivery driver who was threatened by two suspects, one of whom aimed a gun at the driver before the theft SMPD said. Just 20 minutes later, officers got another call about gunshots heard at the 800 block of Second Street.

According to authorities, the same officers who investigated the delivery driver robbery responded to the call and learned the same suspects were involved.

"The injured suspect shot himself in the hand while inside a residence. Officers responding to the shots fired call located the two robbery suspects inside the residence; both are juveniles," SMPD said in a statement.

While paramedics transported the first suspect to a local hospital following his injury, the second suspect was transported to juvenile hall. The injured suspect was released from the hospital the following day and was then transported to juvenile hall, according to SMPD.

Upon further investigation, authorities said they believe the two minors committed multiple other crimes in the area over the past few months including residential and vehicle burglaries, auto theft and a stabbing. Officers said they have both been charged with robbery and additional charges are pending.
