At the "7th Annual Fireside at the Miles," Storytellers Recount "Wake-Up Calls"

Don't miss SHINE Storytelling at Santa Monica's annual cultural festival at the Miles Memorial Playhouse on Saturday, January 23 at 8:00pm!

SHINE Storytelling kicks off the New Year with a special performance on Saturday, January 23 at 8:00pm as part of the “7th Annual Fireside at the Miles,” Santa Monica’s cultural festival at the historic Miles Memorial Playhouse, 1130 Lincoln Blvd.The evening’s theme will be “Wake-Up Call” with storytellers sharing true stories of eye-opening personal awakenings in all aspects of their lives.SHINE is a storytelling series highlighting experienced and new storytellers coming together each month to share inspiring true stories. The event features a relaxed community atmosphere, powerful and entertaining stories, refreshments, mingling, and live music.

SHINE will be hosted this month by Andrea Schell, a dynamic performer, writer, and producer. Andrea performed her solo show From Seven Layers to a Bikini Top in Less Than Five Hours as part of Santa Monica Repertory Theater’s Solo Series. She is Associate Producer on the indie film Tiger Orange; created, produced and hosted the web show What Would Men Say? (www.evoxtelevision.com); and can be seen telling stories at SHINE and around L.A.Live music will be provided by Josephine Johnson, an LA-based singer/songwriter. Johnson’s resonant voice is infused with the influence of the small Indiana farming community where she grew up, a bit of Savannah jasmine, Humboldt’s long winters and great trees, and Asia’s ancient rituals. She has played at venues across California. She released her second album, Let It All Out, in 2014 and is the 2016 Musician in Residence at Westhaven Center for the Arts.
Professional storytellers for SHINE are chosen from some of the nation’s top award-winning storytellers and writers. Amateur storytellers of all ages and walks of life also take the stage.

TICKETS: $10 for adults; $5 for students, seniors and youth 17/under.
