SANTA MONICA, CA — Santa Monica police responded to a reported mountain lion sighting in a residential neighborhood near 14th Street and Montana Avenue Friday morning.
Officers were dispatched to the area and were working with appropriate wildlife resources to assess the report, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.
No injuries have been reported. As a precaution, authorities urged residents in the area to remain indoors, keep pets inside and avoid approaching or attempting to photograph the animal if it is spotted.
Anyone who sees the animal is asked to call 911 immediately and provide their location from a safe place, police said.
The situation remains under investigation.
Officials said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
The reported sighting comes after two mountain lion kittens were struck and killed by vehicles in the Santa Monica Mountains earlier this month.
