SANTA MONICA, CA — An individual was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Santa Monica Saturday, police said.
According to the Santa Monica Police Department, officers responded to Palisades Park near the 1400 block of Ocean Avenue regarding a reported domestic violence incident.
While officers were interviewing witnesses, an unrelated individual armed with a knife charged at the officers, police said.
An officer discharged their firearm, striking the individual, police said.
Santa Monica Fire Department personnel provided emergency medical care, and the individual was transported to a hospital, where they were pronounced deceased, police said.
The involved officer was not injured, police said.
The scene remains active as investigators preserve evidence and conduct the preliminary investigation; the public is asked to avoid the area, police said.
