French Dark-Wave, New Age Band DELEYAMAN Live in Concert: The Change Things Tour

A series of seven intimate concerts in Southern California April 20 – May 11

"One of the best kept secrets in alternative music today" –Elegy magazine (France)

Santa Monica, CA. - For the first time on tour in the U.S., in advance of the release of their sixth album, European alternative band Deleyaman will present a series of seven intimate concerts between April 20 and May 11 in venues across LA County. Based in France the four members of Deleyaman are of American-Armenian, French-Armenian, French and Swedish descent. They have been described in Elegy Magazine as "one of the best kept secrets in alternative music today."  Their music is melodic and soulful, every note and word packed with deep emotion. Their sound has been described as a dark, harmonious and sacred vibe that combines smooth, choral-influenced vocals with the mourning sounds of the Armenian duduk. The band will be on tour playing in intimate venues across Los Angeles this spring debuting at Santa Monica Playhouse with opening act Finnish Singer, Songwriter Irina Björklund and an after-concert reception hosted by the Consulate General of Finland and Consul General Kirsti Westphalen on April 20, 2012.

“As rare as the music once shaped in the hands of Dead can Dance and Cocteau Twins”                                        - Logo Magazine

The band is comprised of Aret (Aret Madilian), Liz (Elizabeth Deage), Jirair M (Gerard Madilian), and Mia (Mia Bjorlingsson). It was formed in a rural coastal village of Normandie in 2000 by Aret Madilian, the Istanbul born American-Armenian singer and multi-instrumentalist. They’ve released five albums to date while creating a unique and unclassifiable sound that is impossible to pigeon hole into a single genre. They have been described as minimalist, ethereal, avant-garde, dark wave, dark world ambient, mystical, post-rock or even neo-folk. Their sound is further defined by the inclusion of the duduk, a 3000 year old ancient Armenian wind instrument. More than simply adding an ethnic reference to their compositions, the duduk grants them a unique tone, emphasizing the ethereal and exotic qualities that allow the album to reach beyond the darker specter of alternative music from which the band originally derived.  The tour will also be the homecoming for the American leader of the band Aret Madilian, who is originally from Los Angeles and was once a member of a South Bay based post-punk duo called “Wog, “winner of the 1985 KROQ Battle of the Bands. The performances on April 20 (Santa Monica Playhouse) and April 21 (Two Roads Theatre) will also feature an opening set by Finnish Actress, Singer, Songwriter, Musical Saw Player Irina Björklund (http://sonicbids.com/irinabjorklundpeterfox) and her composer partner Peter Fox with soothing, make-a-better-world material from their latest release, the all French language album Chanson D’Automne, that made the official album charts in Finland for six weeks. They will present a stripped down version of their usual six-or seven-man band as a trio with accomplished LA musician/producer Steve McCormick.
