Bring the class together before the school year ends

An end-of-the-year class project can bring the class together and cement the memories and friendships made over the past year before summer.

The end of the year is fast approaching. Summer is on the mind of both students and educators, but implementing a class or group project in the spring season helps all parties stay engaged. Bringing the class together to work on a final project will instill a teamwork mentality. A final project gives students and educators alike a final memory of the year they have spent together.

While students have excelled in their independent studies throughout the year, bringing the class together as a group allows them to grow together as they transition into the next phase of their education.

An example of an end of the year project is a class storybook. Each student has the chance to write a section of a complete story or write a story of their own following a pre-established theme. Compiling all of the stories together gives the students a take-home memento from their class. Working together to create a theme or a cohesive story promotes teamwork and class unity, while also giving students the freedom to express their creativity through different storytelling outlets.

Another idea is to create a class autograph book. Each student constructs their own booklet. After all of the booklets have been made, they are passed around to all classmates and educators to write a note, a story, or sign their name. The book is a keepsake for the students to remember their time with the class. Additionally, the book is an outlet for creativity while also giving the students a chance to express themselves to the students they have spent the past year with.

Show What You Know (show and tell) is a great final project to get all of the students engaged and involved in an assignment. Either in groups or individually, students are given the chance to teach something new to the class. Creativity is promoted, as well as classroom involvement. Including projects and hands-on explanations of what the students are teaching the class is a sure way to enhance morale towards the end of the year.
