DACA Students, We Support You, SMMUSD Says

The campuses will continue to be "safe zones."

SANTA MONICA, CA – Dr. Ben Drati, Superintendent of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD), has expressed disappointment in the Trump administration's recent decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. SMMUSD's Board of Education and Superintendent Drati reaffirms their commitment to providing all school-aged students with access to an excellent education and the opportunities that education provides without regard to their immigration status or the immigration status of their parents, according to the press release.

As outlined in the SMMUSD Board of Education resolution dated December 15, 2016, the campuses will continue to be “safe zones.” The district has shared resources that may be helpful to families facing immigration issues, and will be providing information to our families regarding special workshops by local organizations on this topic in the coming weeks.
