Early Kindergartners' First Classes are Trailblazing New Paths in the Lower School

The year is off to a fast start in the kindergarten class. True to the spirit of all Delphi Santa Monica classes, these students are already hard at work learning, playing and growing.

One of the first themes for the starting weeks was “All About Me & Family”. This overarching theme for the kindergarten classes gave the students a framework to learn about the many different countries and cultures that we all come from.

Students were able to learn about communities all over the world and what makes every one of them unique. At the same time, they were able to learn just how valuable all of these cultural additions are to making America as special as it is.

The kindergarten classes have also already started making plans for Thanksgiving. While it may seem like a long ways away, there is a lot to do! Our classes will be heading out into the local community for service projects during this holiday season.

These projects will be paired with learning about Thanksgiving and its meaning in the classroom. The children will start by learning all about the very first Thanksgiving and the valuable lesson it holds for us. By then doing projects to help their families, friends, neighbors and the community at large, they can see how much they truly have to be thankful for.

In the meantime, every hour of the school day is humming with excitement. Already the kindergarteners have been able to enjoy gardening and cooking--and how fun it is to bring your own veggies to the kitchen!

In addition to improving at reading and writing, every child is also getting to draw and participate in music classes and storytelling sessions. Every morning, students are running into class because they can’t wait to get started!
