Final Draft Of Downtown Santa Monica Plan Doesn't Include Major Park
The final draft of the Santa Monica Downtown Community Plan doesn't include a major public park like some wanted.

SANTA MONICA, CA — A proposed major public park in the heart of downtown Santa Monica was left out of the final draft of the Downtown Community Plan (DCP) to guide future development in Santa Monica's central business district, according to Santa Monica Lookout.
The final draft of the plan included changes such as a predictable process to encourage affordable housing, new protections for historic resources, and sensible parking requirements, among others.
Based on city outreach, the community prefers "pocket parks," courtyards and small plazas over "larger open spaces such as a central park or recreation fields," according to Santa Monica Lookout.

The proposal, however, vastly differs from the vision of the major public park backed by leaders of the Santa Monica's slow-growth movement and the Santa Monica Recreation and Parks Commission, according to Santa Monica Lookout.
After six years, the final draft of the Downtown Community Plan will be deliberated by the City Council Monday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Council Chamber, City Hall, 1685 Main Street.
