Free Autism Forum Jan. 14

For parents, families, and those interested in learning about communication in the autism population

Language and Learning Centers of Los Angeles is hosting a free forum Thursday, January 14, from 6-9 p.m. focused on communication and autism. The event is open to parents, family members, and anyone interested in learning about communication strategies for individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Refreshments will be served. The event will include discussion led by speech-language pathologists specializing in autism and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Many individuals with autism face communication challenges. Speakers will discuss strategies to prevent frustration and enhance the quality of communication using an evidence-based method called the Visual Immersion System (VIS™), developed to take advantage of the strong visual processing skills and interest in technology of many individuals on the autism spectrum.

Language and Learning Centers of Los Angeles is a new clinic providing speech and language assessments and treatment for children and adults with developmental disabilities, ASD, cerebral palsy, ALS, genetic syndromes, and more. The organization specializes in providing AAC services for those with limited or no speech. The Center provides assistance to families obtaining AAC systems and services through health insurance.
