HNTB-led Team PLX2 hosts tunneling and construction management seminar for L.A. small businesses

HNTB, along with two joint venture construction management partners - CH2M and Kal Krishnan Consulting Services (KKCS) – formed Team PLX2, an innovative consulting group specializing in southern California transportation projects involving tunneling. The team recently hosted its first educational and networking event in Los Angeles to introduce local small businesses to tunneling and underground project opportunities.

HNTB seminar presenters included Dan Louis, Southern California PM/CM director & tunnel practice director West and Mark Ramsey, West Division tunnel practice leader.

Attendees learned about upcoming regional infrastructure mega-projects, including California High Speed Rail and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Westside Purple Line Extension. Goals of the session included promoting opportunities for small businesses and further increasing Team PLX2’s large-project capabilities by identifying potential partners to participate with the team in future work.

The workshop agenda included mega-projects overview, work sequencing, environmental/community issues, safety and security, pre-tunneling activities, station construction, rail systems, tunnel boring machines, tunnel muck handling and disposal, staffing needs, and potential training/development opportunities. The session concluded with a lively discussion and Q&A session, led by Louis.

As a leave-behind, presenters also developed an informational brochure highlighting Team PLX2’s key construction management expertise.
