Journey Under The Sea: 'Little Mermaid Jr.' Takes The Stage

SANTA MONICA, CA – Disney's "The Little Mermaid Jr.," a musical extravaganza, is about to open at the Morgan-Wixson Theatre in Santa Monica, running Fridays and Saturdays from May 19 to June 3.

Adapted from Disney's Broadway production and movie and based on a Hans Christian Andersen story, "Little Mermaid" is being staged by Morgan-Wixson's Youth Education/Entertainment Series (Y.E.S.) and will feature a singing and dancing cast of 34 performers, ages 8 to 18.

In the popular tale, "in a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home – and her fins – behind and live in the world above," according to producers. "But first, she'll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil seawitch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she's the girl whose enchanting voice he's been seeking."

Morgan-Wixson's recent youth performances of "Curious George" and "The Velveteen Rabbit" were full sell-outs.

"The Little Mermaid Jr." runs Fridays and Saturdays at 11 a.m., with a final performance added June 3 at 2 p.m. at at theater at 2627 Pico Blvd. in Santa Monica. Adult tickets are $12; children 12 and under $10.
