SANTA MONICA, CA — Thomas Francis Napack, 31, will face a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to move forward with a trial today. He was shot after allegedly lunging toward two sheriff's transit deputies at a Metro Expo Line station in Santa Monica last October, with knives in each hand, and was charged with attempted murder and assault on a peace officer.

On the day of the crime, buses were brought in to transport rail passengers between the intersection of Fifth Street and Broadway and the 17th Street/Santa Monica College Station until it reopened about seven hours later.

If convicted as charged, Napack could face a life prison sentence, according to Deputy District Attorney Matthew Vodnoy.
