Murder Charges Filed Against Santa Monica Shooting Suspect
The suspect was holding a handgun and pointed the weapon at officers, which led to an exchange of gunfire.
SANTA MONICA, CA – The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office Airport Division filed charges on Christopher Charles Davis, 46, a suspect in an August 4 Santa Monica shooting. Davis is currently being held in custody on $2 million bail, and is scheduled for arraignment this afternoon at the Airport Courthouse, according to a Santa Monica Police Department press release.
The following charges were filed on Davis: murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm. SMPD Detectives are actively investigating the incident, along with the LA County District Attorney's Office Officer-Involved-Shooting Team, which is conducting an independent review of the incident.
On August 4 around 6:30 p.m., SMPD received numerous 911 calls regarding a possible shooting with a victim down in the area near Main Street and Strand Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene they located a male victim on the ground, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was treated by Santa Monica Fire Department Paramedics and transported to a local hospital for treatment, but died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Officers saw the suspect holding a handgun around 3rd Street and Hollister Avenue, and the suspect pointed the weapon at officers. When additional officers arrived and confronted the suspect, it led to an exchange of gunfire, according to the press release.
According to ABC News, helicopter footage showed police interviewing witnesses near a white car with the driver's side window shot out.
