Ocean Park Branch Library Celebrates 100th Birthday
It became a Santa Monica historic landmark in 1977.

SANTA MONICA, CA – The Ocean Park Branch Library in Santa Monica turns 100 years old this year, and the century-old public building will be celebrating all year. The Classic Revival building is one of the few remaining Carnegie libraries in SoCal, ABC7 reported.
Back in 1918 it cost $25,000 to build – that's $550,000 in today's dollars, the news station said. When it was built, city leaders chose concrete instead of brick to save money; it became a Santa Monica historic landmark in 1977.
At 3 p.m. on April 28, there will be a centennial event at the library including a presentation on the history of the Ocean Park neighborhood of Santa Monica.
