1. Man Found Dead On Santa Monica High-Rise Balcony Identified (patch.com) — Santa Monica residents are learning more about the man found dead last week on a construction balcony at the Westminster Tower high-rise, now identified as 90-year-old Maurice Robson. Authorities say he died by suicide from blunt traumatic injuries at the 7th Street construction site and emphasize there is no threat to the public, while reminding the community that 988 offers confidential crisis support.

2. Santa Monica Senior Hunger Crisis: 93 Waiting for Meal Delivery (smdp.com) — Dozens of homebound Santa Monica seniors are stuck on a growing Meals on Wheels West waitlist, highlighting an urgent local hunger and isolation crisis. The nonprofit says federal funding hasn't kept pace with the Westside's aging population and is asking residents for donations, volunteers, and advocacy so more neighbors can receive daily meals and wellness checks.

3. Santa Monica Walking Book Club Grows to 8 Cities (smdp.com) — A Santa Monica-based walking book club is turning Instagram followers into real-life literary neighbors, with monthly author-led walks that start and end at local bookstores. Founded by two Santa Monica residents, the Preoccupied LA community now connects readers across Los Angeles and beyond while keeping its home base — and most frequent gatherings — right here in town.

4. LA County Public Housing Waiting List Opens for 16 Locations (koreadaily.com) — Santa Monica residents now have a fresh chance to get into LA County public housing, with a general-family property in the city included among 16 sites whose waiting lists just opened. Applications run through September 16, with income-based rents capped around 30 percent of household income and strict rules about declining offered units. Low- and extremely low-income households receive priority under county guidelines.

5. Melanoma: mRNA Vaccine May Help Prevent Recurrence and Spread (healthline.com) — Santa Monica's Providence Saint John's Cancer Institute is on the map here, with its melanoma program director weighing in on promising phase 3 results for a personalized mRNA melanoma vaccine paired with Keytruda. She calls the data encouraging but stresses that doctors still need detailed safety and durability results before changing care.
