Bicyclist Hit & Killed In Santa Monica Crash

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

SANTA MONICA, CA – A bicyclist was killed in a crash in Santa Monica Sunday, and police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the weekend collision to contact traffic investigators. The man, in his 20s, died at the scene of the collision, which occurred about 7 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Pacific Coast Highway, according to the coroner's office and Santa Monica police. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.

The motorist initially left the scene, but returned and was questioned, said Santa Monica police Lt. Saul Rodriguez.

"A preliminary investigation revealed the bicyclist was riding his bicycle northbound along PCH," Rodriguez said. "The involved vehicle was traveling northbound along PCH and struck the bicyclist from the rear. The driver is cooperating with the investigation and there have been no preliminary indications the driver was impaired."

Police shut down all northbound lanes of PCH from Lincoln to Chautauqua boulevards during the investigation.
