Petition Started To Rename Lincoln Park After Linkin Park Singer's Death

Local resident and fan of the band Sarah Rose started a petition asking Santa Monica City Council to rename Lincoln Park to Linkin Park.

SANTA MONICA, CA — After the death of Linkin Park's Chester Bennington, local resident and fan of the band Sarah Rose started a petition asking Santa Monica City Council to rename Lincoln Park to Linkin Park in order to give homage to the band and play off of the name of the park.

Rose acknowledged on the Care2 petition page that Abraham Lincoln, which the park is currently named after, already has many streets, counties, monuments, and buildings named after him

"When I was a teenager, I brought a copy of Linkin Park's Meteora CD insert with me every single day to middle school," Sarah Rose wrote on the Care2 petition. "That record got me through being bullied and made fun of by what felt like everyone in my class. I would read the lyrics when I was teased or picked on. For a large faction of people in my generation, Linkin Park's music helped those who felt alienated find voice and strength."
