Photos: Locals Head To LA Beaches For Bioluminescent Waves

Beaches across Los Angeles County will reopen Wednesday.

SANTA MONICA, CA — People were walking along the sand to catch a glimpse of the blue bioluminescent waves in Santa Monica and Venice Monday night. At the beach path and under Venice's iconic blue sign, people watched glowing waves just as beaches in Los Angeles County begin reopening Wednesday.

Santa Monica Pier continues to light Pacific Wheel with blue and a red heart to honor front line workers. The special light dedication starts each night at dusk, from 7:30 p.m., until midnight.

You can also watch the special light display on Pacific Park's live camera. The live web cam streams live 24/7 from multiple locations on the pier.

Venice's legendary sign is also lit up in blue this month to honor front line workers in the coronavirus pandemic. All May, Venice will say 'thank you' and honor the courage and sacrifices of essential and front line workers, Venice's Chamber of Commerce announced.

The historic Venice sign is a tourist location at Pacific and Windward avenues and managed by the Venice Chamber of Commerce. The sign is a replica of the 1905 sign installed by Abbot Kinney.
