Santa Monica Man Arrested For Alleged Carjacking

SANTA MONICA, CA – Charges were filed against a 20-year-old man from Santa Monica who was arrested on Sept. 28 by the Santa Monica Police Department for his involvement in a carjacking that occurred the previous week in Culver City. He was wanted by the Culver City Police Department. Hector Jehova Bonilla has also been linked to a shooting that occurred in Santa Monica, and two robberies in Los Angeles Police Department’s jurisdiction.

The charges were filed with a collaborative effort by Detectives from CCPD, LAPD, and SMPD at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office-AirportDivision Courthouse, the SMPD press release said.

SMPD Detectives were able to identify Bonilla as an involved party in a Sept. 20 shooting that occurred in the area of 20th Street and Pico Boulevard. No victims were struck during the shooting. Witnesses described the suspect exiting a car driving in the area and getting into a verbal confrontation with an unidentified victim. During the argument, the suspect shot several rounds at the victims and bystanders, the SMPD press release said.

Bonilla has been charged with carjacking, robbery, and negligent discharge of a firearm. Bonilla is being held without bail under the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office pending a preliminary hearing.
