Join SHINE Storytelling on August 23 at 7:00pm for an evening of music performances and true stories!

In a special edition of SHINE, storytellers and musicians share their inspiring true tales about the life-changing influence of “Music” on Sunday, August 23 at 7:00pm at The Promenade Playhouse in Santa Monica. This month’s performers will take us on an exciting musical journey from the ‘60s to the present--and from punk rock, soul, mariachi, and hip hop to top 10 pop hits.

Special featured performer will be Florence LaRue, the glamorous and talented GRAMMY Award-winning singer best known as the lead singer of The 5th Dimension. LaRue’s phenomenal career has produced 14 Gold records, 6 Platinum records, 6 GRAMMY Awards, and numerous other awards. As depicted in her solo show Just As I Am, LaRue obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Education before seeking a career in show business. She rose to achieve worldwide success in the early ‘60s and today continues to perform around the world, surprising her fans with her
talent, stamina and boundless energy.

SHINE will be hosted this month by the versatile Joshua Silverstein, an award-winning actor, comedic writer, and beatboxer. His two-person show, So Fresh and So Clean, with actor/poet Joe Hernandez-Kolski, has received rave reviews since debuting in Los Angeles in 2008. Joshua o-hosts and co-produces the Emmy-winning Downbeat 720, a high school open-mic that has been a staple of Santa Monica for the last 13 years. Joshua also performs with Eliza Skinner at Turnt Up, a monthly comedian emcee battle in LA. Most recently, Joshua debuted his solo show Tell Me I’m Pretty (Living with Cacophony) at Greenway Court Theater and is touring this show throughout 2015.

Storytellers for SHINE are chosen from some of the nation’s top award-winning storytellers, writers, and performers. New storytellers of all ages and walks of life also take the stage.
