SHINE Storytellers Get "Spooked" on October 18

Join us on October 18 for a special SHINE Storytelling at The Promenade Playhouse in Santa Monica!

Get ready to be “Spooked” as SHINE storytellers scare up true tales of their greatest fears, phobias and freaky encounters onSunday, October 18 at 7:00pm at the Promenade Playhouse in Santa Monica.SHINE is a popular storytelling event that features storytellers coming together once a month on Sunday evenings to share inspiring true stories. The event is known for its relaxed community atmosphere, live music, and powerful, entertaining stories.

This month, SHINE will be hosted by Deana Barone a dynamic storyteller, actress, writer, and director. Deana runs The Tell-Tale Company, tells stories all over Los Angeles and leads story workshops for actors and business people. She created, curated and co-hosted the long-running The Trunk Show, The Elephant Theatre’s monthly multi-genre storytelling show, is aMoth StorySlam winner, and a produced playwright.


Live music will be provided by Frances Livings a British-born poet, singer and songwriter, who now lives in Los Angeles. As a singer, Frances has been featured on multiple Nujazz productions. In 2013, she released her first solo album with original material, The World I Am Livings In. Currently, she is finishing the album Ipanema Lounge, a multilingual world jazz project. An ongoing project is her “Jazzoetry”–spoken word with jazz improvisation– recorded with some of Los Angeles’ finest jazz musicians. She has a PhD in art history and is the founder of the music label Moontraxx, following the motto, “A popular approach to intelligent music!”

Storytellers for SHINE are chosen from some of the nation’s top award-winning storytellers, writers, and performers. New storytellers of all ages and walks of life also take the stage. Six storytellers are booked in advance, and one is chosen from the audience in a random drawing.
