SMMUSD Continues School Lunches For Summer

SANTA MONICA, CA — Although schools in Santa Monica and Malibu remain closed during the coronavirus pandemic, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District continues to provide meals throughout the summer.

Breakfast and lunch are available for all students under the age of 18, according to a district news release.

Service is Monday through Friday from 8 to 10 a.m. at these four schools:

• Santa Monica High School, 601 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica
• McKinley Elementary, 2401 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica
• Will Rogers Learning Community, 2401 14th St., Santa Monica
• Webster Elementary, 3602 Winter Canyon Rd., Malibu

"SMMUSD families may go to any of these schools even if not enrolled there," officials said. "All students under the age of 18 will be served grab-and-go bagged meals. A parent or guardian must be present, except high school students may participate on their own."

Anyone who is sick is asked to stay home.

The district hasn't finalized plans for fall yet and has held virtual meetings to hear input from parents. School resumes on August 20.

LAUSD announced Monday that campuses would remain closed and online instruction will continue for the fall semester.

"SMMUSD will announce plans for back to school meal service and details regarding fall
academic programs in late summer," officials said.

Students who pick up from Rogers, McKinley and Webster can enter at the front of the school, either right out front, or in the usual drop off and pick up drive-thru. Samohi pick up will be at the gate at 7th Street and Michigan Avenue.

“We understand that many of our families are struggling right now and these meals are providing an important service,” Superintendent Dr. Ben Drati said. “We are working to support our families during this difficult time, including over the summer.”
