Vikings Football On Verge of Ranking

Samohi is still outside the top 10 in the CIF-SS Western Division poll.

The office has released this week's Top 10 football rankings, and remains on the "others under consideration" list, just outside the top 10 in the , after last Friday's .

The home loss to the Vikings (4-1) dropped the Apaches (4-1) from second down to third in the Northwest Division. Samo's rival (4-1) dropped from fifth to seventh in the after its 49-23 home loss to powerhouse Narbonne.

St. Paul stayed in front of Mission League rival Chaminade in the No. 1 spot in the Western Division after a 28-6 victory over Schurr. Chaminade remained at No. 2 after its 36-32 victory over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. Arroyo Grande held at No. 3, St. Francis stayed at No. 4, Gardena Serra moved up a spot to No. 5 and Ventura moved up a spot to No. 6. Dominguez, which had a bye, moved from ninth to eighth, Gahr moved from 10th to ninth after beating Bell of the 47-7 and San Luis Obispo moved into the No. 10 spot after blanking Pioneer Valley 28-0.

Santa Monica opens play at on Friday at 7 p.m. against defending champion , which beat the Vikings 28-7 last season.

"Every game is a must-win now," Samo Coach Travis Clark said. "Inglewood beat us last year and I expect another tough game this time."
