$14M Facelift Coming For Lakeside Recreation Area

LAKESIDE, CA – County supervisors Wednesday approved more than $14 million in upgrades for a popular Lakeside recreation area.

The project at Lindo Lake Park is designed to improve the health of the lake, deepening it to 10 feet and improving the aquatic ecosystem, county officials said. The project will also add a fishing pier, birdwatching stations, picnic tables and landscaping, while also restoring wetland and native habitats and improving trails.

"This project will restore the health and beauty to Lindo Lake, the heart of the Lakeside community," said Jill Bankston, county chief of development.

The county's only natural lake, Lindo is home to numerous freshwater birds. Located on Vine Street, the 55-acre park features a community center, playgrounds, barbecue and picnic areas, a ball field, boathouse, trails around the lake and other amenities.

Over the years, erosion from development and decreased storm water runoff have degraded water quality, according to the county.

Bankston said the first phase of the Lindo Lake Park project will begin this winter, with completion expected in 2021.

According to county documents, the project will happen in two phases, with the first one costing $7.5 million. The second phase will cost $7 million.

Supervisors praised the upgrade, which Chairwoman Dianne Jacob described as long-awaited.
