The wreck occurred shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday near Riverford Road, according to CHP.

LAKESIDE, CA: Two drivers were injured Wednesday, one seriously, in a collision between a truck and a commercial van at the end of an East County freeway offramp.

The collision occurred shortly after 11 a.m., when the 36-year-old driver of a 1965 Dodge pickup failed to safely negotiate a curve while exiting northbound state Route 67 onto Riverford Road in Lakeside, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The truck hit a raised island, then broadsided a Lays delivery vehicle heading to the northeast on Woodside Avenue, CHP public-affairs Officer Kevin Pearlstein said.

The impact ejected the Lakeside man driving the pickup onto the roadway, leaving him with major head trauma. The 54-year-old driver of the van, a San Diego resident, suffered minor injuries. Medics took both men to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego.

The wreck left the intersection blocked for about a half-hour.
